2 pounds cooking apples, peeled, cored and coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons water
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1. Combine apples and water in a heavy medium saucepan. Cover and cook over low heat, stirring frequently until apples are very tender.
2. Stir in sugar and desired amount of cinnamon. Uncover, raise heat to medium and cook, stirring constantly, until sugar has dissolved and mixture is saucy.
3. Transfer to serving bowl and serve warm or cover and refrigerate to serve chilled.

Warm homemade applesauce can fit into any meal of the day. Serve it for breakfast, pack it for lunch, or use as a side dish or a dessert for dinner.
