1 soda or beer can, opened, with 1/3 of the beverage left in the can
3-pound chicken, whole
8 cloves of caramelized garlic � see link
1 T dried rosemary
1 t dried thyme
fresh ground black pepper and salt to taste


Rub the outside of the chicken with garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt and black pepper. Preheat the grill. Place the opening of the chicken over the top of a soda or beer can, then position the �canned� chicken � can side down - on a low grill, on an indirect heat. Close the cover of the grill. Cook for 1 ? hours, rotate the chicken every 20 minutes. Remove the chicken when the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F with an instant-read thermometer. Allow to cool 10 minutes before removing from can.

By placing a can filled with liquid inside the chicken, it bakes on the outside and steams on the inside, keeping the bird juicy. You can put herbs and spices inside the can with the liquid for added flavor.
