2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups water, divided
1 cup guava puree
3 tablespoons margarine

1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Make a smooth paste by slowly adding 1/4 cup water.
2. Increase heat to medium; add guava puree, remaining water and margarine. Cook, stirring occasionally until thickened, about 10 minutes.

Serve this sauce warm over shortcakes, ice cream or pound cake. If you can't buy guava puree, make it by blending peeled and seeded guavas in the blender or food processor.
