Ingredients

12 slices firm whole wheat bread
8 slices smoked ham
8 slices sharp Gruyere or Swiss cheese
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
2 Tbsp. sharp shredded cheddar
2 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese
pinch nutmeg
butter

Directions

Make triple-decker club sandwiches out of the wheat bread, ham and cheese slices. Mix eggs, milk, shredded cheddar, Parmesan and nutmeg to make a batter. Preheat a griddle or saut� pan with butter. Dip sandwiches in batter and cook on the griddle or saut� pan turning occasionally until the sandwiches are light brown and the cheese has softened. Sandwiches may also be baked after they are lightly browned to further melt cheese inside sandwiches.

These sandwiches grill up quickly which does not allow the cheese on the inside to melt. Bake them in the oven for a few minutes to meld the inside.
